The Workers Party of Ireland sends warm greetings to the Kurdistan Communist Party – Iraq on the occasion of its 6th Congress.

This is a region which has been subject to the ravages of imperialism and where the interests of the working people and their desire to construct a peaceful, secular, democratic society have been subverted. The region has borne the brunt of vicious jihadi reaction and fundamentalist sectarianism which seeks to divide workers.

The Workers Party of Ireland recognises that the situation in Kurdistan is heavily influenced by developments in Iraq which is facing serious economic and social problems and political crises and by the barbarous and reactionary activities and programme of Daesh.

The Kurdistan Communist Party – Iraq is committed to building relations across all national, religious and ethnic groups in the region. It has opposed the aggressive interventions of Turkey and highlighted the situation caused by regional conflicts exacerbated by competing international interests.

The Workers Party of Ireland recognises the very difficult and dangerous conditions in which the Kurdistan Communist Party – Iraq carries out its work. We support the heroic efforts to defend the interests of the working people of the region and to oppose Daesh.

The Workers’ Party of Ireland salutes the Kurdistan Communist Party in the struggle for democratic change; for equality, social progress and workers’ rights and in the fight against sectarianism and reaction and for peace and democracy.

The Central Executive Committee of the Workers Party of Ireland sends best wishes to the leadership and members of the Kurdistan Communist Party – Iraq on the occasion of this 6th Congress. We wish you continued success in your work and look forward to the strengthening of relations between our two parties.

With comradely greetings,
