On the centenary of its foundation we have sent the following greetings to the Communist Party of Spain:
Comrades:
On the centenary of the foundation of the Communist Party of Spain, please accept warm congratulations from the Workers’ Party of Ireland. We are proud of our fraternal association with you in the broad alliance of communist and workers’ parties around the world, which all share an honoured history as well as great tasks for the future of humankind.
Your party is especially respected for its decades of struggle and sacrifice against fascism. Here, we will always honour the memory of the Irish volunteers who served in the XV International Brigade, among them our well-loved party comrade Paddy McAllister (1909-1997). He was wounded in the Ebro battle and came home to devote the rest of his life to the fight against backward nationalism and for internationalist, republican socialism.
We remember La Pasionaria’s inspiring address to the Brigadistas; we remember Carillo nonchalantly smoking in Congress while other deputies cowered on the floor. We salute the great artists and intellectuals who took your side, and the subversive workers who developed new forms of resistance. As you enter your second century, you have many reasons to be proud without pausing the fight.
Your brothers and sisters in the WPI look forward to meeting you, preferably in a Third Republic, and assure your members of a warm comradely welcome in Ireland.
Honour and glory to those fallen in your first century of struggle!
To your younger members: you are heirs to a priceless legacy, the new century is entrusted to your hands.

En el centenario del Partido Comunista de España, el Partido de los Trabajadores de Irlanda (Workers’ Party of Ireland) os felicita. Estamos fraternalmente a vuestro lado en la amplia alianza mundial entre partidos comunistas y trabajadores. Compartimos entre todos estos partidos no solo una historia honrada sino también unas tareas inmensas con vistas al futuro de la humanidad.
Vuestro partido ha merecido nuestro profundo respeto por sus décadas de lucha y sacrificio contra el fascismo. Por nuestra parte, nunca olvidaremos los compatriotas que fueron a la frente con la XV Brigada Internacional: entre ellos, nuestro entrañable compañero del WPI, Paddy McAllister (1909-1997). Herido en la batalla del Ebro, logró volver a Irlanda y dedicó su vida a luchar contra el nacionalismo reaccionaria y a favor del socialismo, internacionalista y republicano.
Tampoco olvidaremos las inspiradoras palabras de la Pasionaria en su despedida a los brigadistas; ni la imagen de Carillo, fumando tranquilamente en el Congreso mientras otros diputados se escondían bajo sus asientos. Honramos los geniales artistas e intelectuales que se afiliarion a vuestra causa, así como los trabajadores subversivos que inventaron nuevas fórmulas de resistencia. Al amanecer de vuestro segundo siglo, tenéis muchas razones de ser orgullosos, sin descansar de la lucha.
Vuestros hermano/as del WPI esperamos poder encontrarnos pronto, ojalá que sea en una Tercera República; y vosotros podréis contar con una calurosa bienvenida entre vuestros camaradas en Irlanda.
A vuestros mártires del primer siglo de lucha: ¡honor y gloria!
A vuestra juventud: habéis recebido un legado inestimable y confiamos este siglo a vuestras manos.
