David Gardiner, Workers’ Party representative in Palmerstown-Fonthill, has announced the Workers’ Party’s ‘Keep Calm on the Kennelsfort Road’ campaign, which aims to have an already-existing ban on heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) weighing over 7.5 tonnes from using the Kennelsfort Road enforced by Gardaí.
Gardiner stated: “Residents in Palmerstown may be aware of a ban on heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) weighing more than 7.5 tonnes from using the Kennelsfort Road to access Cherry Orchard Industrial Estate. This ban is in place to protect the houses along the road against noise pollution, and also serves the function of protecting children playing outside in gardens or outside their houses. As well, it offers protection to users of the cycle lane. However, An Garda Síochana refuse to enforce this ban.”
He continued: “Companies are using our roads as a shortcut to make their profits without adequate consideration being given to the community here in Palmerstown. Our ‘Keep Calm on the Kennelsfort Road’ campaign will work to ensure that the existing ban on HGVs over 7.5t is enforced by An Garda Síochana.”
Gardiner concluded, appealing for those interested to join the campaign;
“We’re planning a number of actions to protest inaction on the issue. If you’re interested in getting involved, get in touch with our Facebook page “David Gardiner – Workers’ Party Palmerstown-Fonthill”, give me a call on 0879795530 or email us at workerspartydmw@gmail.com.”
