Workers’ Party Youth has criticised TDs and Senators for attending a party of 80+ people despite COVID-19 restrictions. This comes after numerous government attempts to scapegoat young people as spreading the virus at house parties.

WPY Secretary Eoghan Gardiner said:
“The government has tried to shift the blame for the spread of COVID-19 on to young people at every opportunity. Now, they’re off having parties with 80+ people, in open defiance of the rules they wrote themselves. That’s absolutely hypocritical.”

“If this was a party of young people in working class Dublin, the government would rightly criticise and condemn these actions, albeit only to distract from the spread of COVID elsewhere, such as in meat factories and Direct Provision centres, but as usual it’s one rule for the rich and another for the rest of us.

“We’ve had contradicting advice from different government Departments, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly talking about trampolines when questioned on COVID, and now this. Young people cannot be expected to take politicians in this country seriously.”
