In the early hours of the morning, the imperialist United States finally launched military strikes against Venezuela, bombing the country as well as kidnapping President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, another prominent Venezuela politician.
This criminal act of aggression, launched in a surprise attack at 2am, constitutes one of the most barbaric and blatant assaults of imperialism in recent times, as well as a brutal violation of international law. It is clearly aimed at plundering Venezuela’s oil resources, and destroying the revolutionary government of Venezuela for daring to refuse to bow to the power of the United States.
The Workers’ Party of Ireland strongly condemns this violent act of aggression carried out by U.S. imperialism in its effort to overthrow the legitimate government of Venezuela — the workers’ and people’s government led by President Nicolás Maduro — in the name of U.S. global dominance.
Furthermore, we condemn the latest engineered “colour revolution” pushed forward by U.S. imperialism, with Maria Corina Machado at the forefront of it, and call for the immediate release of President Maduro and Cilia Flores. We support the people’s militias in their resistance against further U.S. aggression and occupation.
