The Workers’ Party has called for a new train station at Kylemore in Ballyfermot to better serve the suburb and surrounding areas of west Dublin, as part of a submission on the DART+ South West project.
David Gardiner, Workers’ Party representative for Palmerstown-Fonthill and Dublin Mid-West, said:
“Access to the city centre from Ballyfermot, and by extension from other parts of west Dublin, is currently hindered by several bus pinch points. A train station in the area would get people into the city centre more efficiently, bypassing the traffic.”
“Such a station would be best located in Kylemore beside Westlink Industrial Estate, which is adjacent to Inchicore Railway Works.”
“It should also be connected to areas like Palmerstown by bus to extend the catchment area. Although Transport Infrastructure Ireland and Irish Rail may have different time scales, it is important now that they jointly plan ahead.”
