Chris Bailie, Workers’ Party representative for North Belfast has strongly condemned the sectarian bonfires for 12th July. This follows heightened tensions, the lighting of huge bonfires, throwing of petrol bombs and bricks, and closing of certain streets to the public.

Bailie said “The images used on the bonfire, which include attacks on Black Lives Matter protesters are unacceptable and designed to be inflammatory. Sadly, this is the sort of behaviour we have come to expect at this time of year’

Bailie continued ‘Our communities cannot continue to excuse or accept this as ‘culture’ any longer. These celebrations are based on and incite bigotry and hate. It is nothing more than blatant sectarianism.’
